We just received a plaque, for our archives, a memorial to Mynora Beamer Hopkins  from the Silverdale United Church, formerly a Methodist church built in 1873 which has disbanded.
"This religious mother-of-pearl plaque was presented and dedicated in 1966 in memory of Mynora Beamer Hopkins who was born at Silverdale, On, Nov. 26, 1870, and died at Hamilton  Jan 26, 1959 aged 89 years.
She was the daughter of Levi Beamer, one of the founders of this old Methodist church and of Amanda Freas, both life long members of this congregation and also third generation United Empire Loyalists of Holland dutch racial origin.
The presentation of this plaque was made by their son, Wing commander Beamer William Hopkins, RCAF, one of Her Majesty's Counsel learned in the Law.  He was a member of the United Church of Canada. The plaque was acquired by him in 1944 while serving in the Holy Land.
She married, in this church, William Bates Hopkins M.D. , also a Methodist.
Carved by Christian Arabs it shows  the birth of Christ and the Last Supper
Mynora Beamer played a small church organ in this building from the time she was nine years  old until her marriage to Dr Hopkins. After graduation from, Lima College for Music, Rochester, NY,
she taught piano music in many Gainsborough farm homes and later became a concert pianist."
